All of your input is valid, relevant and crucial, and therefore is also appreciated. However, the point of the “Head Count” blog is to take your peeves and get out there and BLOG BLOG BLOG!!!

Not all comments to the Head Count blog are pertinent, (however informative or valid), and could easily be their own blogs. Posting a solitary blog not only looks better on your bio page, it proves you're an active member making an effort to BLOGWORK. It also guarantees consolidation of comments made to it, and each blog will be less and less like a press conference filled with people yelling over each other. No one here has the time to scroll up and down to see what the hell you’re talking about.

If it's pertinent, comment. If it sparks another topic, blog. It will be easier for your topic to be viewed by everyone else as a blog entity, and comments made to it won't be surrounded by a cluster of impertinent comments.

I'm guilty myself of writing what would be a great blog buried in the comments of another blog. Roy--the best blogger has a few glitches yet. You're only supposed to get it after averaging a certain score over a number of blogs, but right now one good blog can get you up there. But it's pretty rare that someone will post one good blog and never post again. :)

One point of view about the links: I think that some people who post links are very gun-shy in the sense that they don't want to blatantly rip off an article. To these people I would just say simply: paraphrase your article, post the link/list your source, & most importantly - tell us what you think! Information is great, but it's how you feel that really sparks the conversation & truly makes blogworking work!

I was always a fan of the distinction between posting "comments" vs posting "blogs." I also agree with Jeffrey, links are great, but a little more commentary would be nice as well. I still haven't figured out how the best blogger thing really works... sorry Marc - I know you explained it, but I ate too much chocolate this week and now my brain only sees brown... Willy Wonka here I come... with my 5 year-old of course...

Roy, I totally agree, but the new rating system is much like being innocent until proven guilty: any blog will start off with 5 stars, but only as people continue to vote on it will its true relevance be determined. Maintaining those 5 stars means one of two things: no one is voting it down, or it must be important. Either way, I wouldn't worry, this is advertising, your five stars can't last long. Just be glad Sal de Vito can't set it on fire for you.

Comments probably should not be given blog status. I make a one sentence posting and I'm suddenly given the best blogger honor. One sentence is hardly a blog.

I'd like to add that when links are posted as a blog, commentary or insight about the content would be useful.

I agree with John, there are tons of topics which could be blogs that start within someone else's blog, so start blogworking and create another blog :)
