Question about cereal box redesign...

Hey Everyone...

I'm working on a magazine the covers marketing at retail... and I swear I can remember only a few months ago that the govt. passed a bill to force the cereal companies (Kelloggs, General Mills, etc) to redesign their cereal boxes to be less appealing to kids. I know I didn't dream this... but I can't find a damn word about it anywhere on the web. Anyone know about this as well? If so, know of any webnews sources that have reported it?

Appreciate the help... thanks!

Todd

it's not the cereal box that's the problem. the word "Don't" needs to somehow be made less appealing to children. I'm convinced that in the future, package design will consist of the following: The entire package will be the warning label, minus the brand name. You want paper or plastic?

i just heard on the news two nights ago that Trix commercials will no longer air on programs for 11 year olds and under because of the sugar content. Coco Puffs however will because they contain ONE less gram of sugar!

I don't think the government has stepped in yet, that industry is going to try self regulation. It happening in a number of industries and shows signs of momentum. Though in the case of the cereal companies I think it was kicked off by a lawsuit. Here is a link to an article that disscusses it from June of this year. http://tinyurl.com/2e2v36 - New York Time article.
