Peeps!

God, it's been too long since I've been abloggin' on the Adholes site. My apologies to you all. Hopefully, I will get a chance to update my profile and let y'all know what I've been up to this past year.

Anywho, I wanted to share a topic I read about on Slate MSN. Writer Seth Stevenson complains and dissects Chevy's latest TV ad on the 2007 Silverado.

Have you seen it? It's a mish-mash of 20th and 21st century American stock footage on important historical moments, like Rosa Parks, Richard Nixon waving by the helicopter to take him away, Vietnam, and Woodstock. The 21st century moments include stock footage of Hurricane Katrina and the beams of light representing the WTC. All with John Mellencamp singing in the background, trying to make them seamless.

I agree with Stevenson's trashing of this ad and I don't believe this sells trucks in any slight way whatsoever. Frankly, these ads could do some damage to Chevy's "Like a Rock" brand.

But maybe I'm wrong? Maybe people will be moved by these ads...(somehow I don't think so).

Have you checked out the ad? If so, tell me what y'all think!

Wasn't John-boy one of the few artists that always said he wouldn't "sell out" and let folks pillage on his hard work? I'm so disappointed. I'm going to take a shot in the dark, and throw this out there. I say something's cookin' in the recording industry. I predict a new cd release from him within a year. This commercial gives his name the opportunity to be remembered by the public. How long has it been since he released an album/cd? ANYONE??? Somethin's up!!!

Also, how does Rosa Parks appeal to the NASCAR demographic?

Well I suppose it sells to that demographic...but can they all afford it? AH-HAH! Victory on a technicality!!! Kidding, a' course. Thanks for the comments.

I was leaving a Clapton concert last week (North Carolina - home of NASCAR) and casually pulled out of my parking spot in front of a Chevy 2.5 ton heavy duty Pickup. Evidently Mr. Compensation didn't like our girly little red Jetta taking an open spot on the slow moving line; he proceeded to "bump" me all the way out of the lot filling my rear mirror with a huge Chevy Logo. All I could think was: "this is the guy who LOVES those ads."

Sure, the ad insults the intelligence of anyone who wouldn’t buy a Silverado, but there are millions of people who attend NASCAR events, wear trucker hats with American flags on them, and eat at McDonalds every day. They’re the same people that drive Chevy Silverodos. They may not be like us lofty advertising types, but that’s the trick of advertising creative. You have to make content for the customer, not yourself.
