Pitching Protocol

RoofLid Communication is a new, full-service advertising agency in San Francisco, CA. And because we are new to advertising, we have a question.

When you pitch a piece of business that is at another agency, is the industry modus operandi to inform that agency of your intent? Or, do you just go ahead and deal directly with your new client?

If this question seems ludicrous, please consider that RoofLid Communication is but a rookie in the advertising game. It is our goal to become an everyday player. Maybe not overnight but certainly within a month or two.

Before launching RoofLid Communication, many roofing experts considered us the top roofing company within a 3-block radius of our city. But with housing and commercial development in a downslide, we decided to turn our hobby, advertising, into a full-time business.

The fact that Charlie, our Chief Executive of New Business, is afraid of heights had nothing whatsoever to do with our decision to leave the Roofing Industry. We will miss the breathtaking views, the satisfaction of pounding a nail into a 45º shingle, and the proverbial ‘climbing the building ladder’ to the top everyday, rain or shine. All of that, nevertheless, cannot compete with the advertising industry’s passion, excitement, and creativity. We are pleased to be among you. We ask only that you be kind to us until we get the hang of what’s going on. Much thanks. RoofLid Communication is an advertising agency in San Francisco. We are currently working on our website, which will be online very soon.

Fake? Ha! What about your hair? You couldn’t play the fiddle because when you tilt your head your hairpiece falls off.

The fiddle looks fake to me. Sounds it, too.

It is not a fake fiddle. It was not Made In China. My grandfather, Frederick Fiddler, gave it to me.

Great news! Garee B. Faker found his fake fiddle. It didn't jump off a Roof Top in Baltimore like originally reported. It was thrown off a Roof Top in Baltimore. Communications are now open so let's get down to business. What's the name of the agency once the merger between RoofLid Communication and RoofCover Communications is completed?

Have you heard the news? I found my fiddle in an alley. It had fallen off a Baltimore Roof Top. Communications are now open. I am so happy. Sing it with me: “Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah / Zip-A-Dee-A / My oh my, what a wonderful day / Plenty of sunshine heading my way / Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah / Zip-A-Dee-A”
