So let's say you start at a "hot shop" and you're finding it difficult to fit in with everyone. You feel like you're getting "shifty" briefs and are generally questioning how seriously you're being taken. what are some tips you guys have to fit in/over come the mental came your mind plays on itself?

I'm not the kind of creative that sits quietly in a briefing letting account and planning get away with lazily written briefs with little or no relevant information. If there's information I need to complete the assignment, I'll let them know that they owe me that info up front. It's even more important when you start out at a new agency. Don't get me wrong -- I'm not rude. Just firm. After all, the same account execs and planners will rip into the work once it's been completed, so we should all start off on the same page. They also need to know that it's not just the clients that will hold them accountable. (It tends to fend off the bullshit assignments, too.)

The new kid on the block has to prove them self, before they are taken seriously. Don't sweat it, it happens to everyone; in some way, shape, or form. Take whatever assignment comes you way, as long as you can call it your own, then do something great with it, and prove yourself worthy of more and better assignments. People usually start beginners out by throwing them a small bone, if they handle that OK, they get more bones, then bigger bones; sometimes even the whole carcass. Remember, you are only as good as your last project. And, it is always about what have you done for me lately.
