Before you complain that this is an inappropriate topic for this forum (I agree that Adholes should generally be politics free), please read on. For disclosure purposes, I am the Andrew Rasiej (Ra Shay) Public Advocate campaign’s de facto advertising industry liaison.

Rasiej is running for Public Advocate in the September 13, Democratic primary, against incumbent Betsy Gotbaum and ACLU head Norman Siegel. The winner becomes Public Advocate because the Republicans are again not running a candidate, probably because the public advocacy (A government department designed to be the public’s ombudsman in dealing with the government bureaucracy and big business) is the antithesis of their true zeitgeist driven by narrow business interests (Forget about the so-called “values” they used to win the election. Republicans recruit the religious right because anti gay marriage amendments are easier to peddle to the masses than trickle up economics and abolishing the New Deal. Read “What’s the Matter With Kansas” for a detailed explanation of this thesis. Now, I’m getting too political for this forum. I must also add that the opinions expressed in this blog are solely mine. The Rasiej campaign takes no responsibility.).

However, one of Rasiej’s initiatives particularly appeals to one business interest group… us.

Universal 5 borough wireless Internet access is the salient item on Rasiej’s agenda.

If you’re not affiliated with Verizon, T-Mobile, Time Warner or Starbucks, and work in advertising, this is big, even bigger for those with any involvement with interactive.

Under universal wireless access, new wireless content platforms suddenly become viable. It invigorates local search by making GPS based results possible.

Even if your not involved in interactive, wouldn’t it be cool to be able to get online while soaking up some rays or walking to a meeting, using a non-phone based device? Intel spends a pretty penny touting its Centrino Mobile Technology (Intel, please spend some of those pretty pennies through me.). Wouldn’t it be nice to find an application for Centrino?

Please visit the campaign website (advocatesforrasiej.com) for details on his universal wireless proposal and general information.

Very cool. Now that new wireless routers come password protected, it's harder to find open connections in the city. You can find lots of intel hotspots by going to intel.com/hotspots And so cool about emusic. I LOVE that site. I've been getting my 90 downloads a month since they re-invented the site a few years ago. and have been buying the bulk of my music from them from the start.

I forgot to mention that Rasiej's also founded emusic.com and the music venue Irving Plaza.
