Coca-Loco!
So, Coca-Cola has launched a coffee soda called Coca-Cola Blak (sounds a bit like the beloved classic espresso soda, the Manhattan Special) and just announced today that it is launching co-branded line of mochas and lattes with Godiva. Aren’t they a little late to the game? Pepsi has been co-branding Starbucks Frappuccino beverages in supermarket shelves for years now. The cola wars of the 80s have transcended into the battle of the beverage. When Snapple got big, Fruitopia and Sobe were quickly launched. In the early 90s, clear beverages seemed to be all the rage, but fizzled rather quickly. A couple of years ago the lemon and lime infused sodas were the hype du jour. But coffee, well that’s a whole other story. Millions of people each day cannot fathom the thought of starting their days without it. We socialize over it, pore through our emails with our trusted cup beside us, we have a mid-afternoon break with it, and we occasionally have a nightcap with it.
