A Little Halloween Trivia
Just the facts m'am: The NRF 2005 Halloween Consumer Intentions and Actions Survey, found that consumers are expected to spend $3.29 billion on Halloween this year, up 5.4 percent from $3.12 billion in 2004. Research by the National Retail Federation determined that 52.5% of adults plan to celebrate Halloween or participate in Halloween activities in some way in 2005. According to a survey by the National Confectioners Association, 93% of children take part in Halloween trick-or- treating activities The National Retail Federation study predicts that households will spend an average of $48.48 on Halloween candy, costumes and decorations in 2005, up from $43.57 in 2004. Projected average amounts by category: Halloween decorations, $12.35; costumes, $16.98; candy, $17.09; greeting cards, $2.06. A 2005 survey by the National Retail Federation identified the most popular activities that adults would be doing to celebrate Halloween (multiple answers): Hand out candy, 74.3%; decorate home/yard, 47.0%; carve a pumpkin, 41.4%; take children trick-or-treating, 31.8%; dress in costume, 31.5%; throw/attend a party, 25.2%; visit a haunted house, 14.9%. The 2005 survey conducted by The Macerich Company revealed that 21% of pet owners plan to dress up their pets for Halloween.
