Alright maybe it's because I'm obsessive compulsive about this movie, or maybe it's because I'm obsessive compulsive about unoriginal twats. But the new Barq's root beer spot is a clear rip-off of the scene in Back to the Future when Marty knocks on Doc's 1955 home asking for help and in return the Doc tries to read his mind. I know the Barq's spot uses a "mind-reader" instead of a machine used to mind-read, but the basic concept is still there. YOU'RE NOT FOOLING ME! You plagarized and then bastardized idea. But maybe you're still not understanding me, maybe originality is something you have yet to comprehend; so please, let me steal another piece of cinema and quote Dr. Ian Malcolm:

"You read what others had done and you took the next step. You didn't earn the knowledge for yourselves, so you don't take any responsibility for it. You stood on the shoulders of geniuses to accomplish something as fast as you could and before you even knew what you had you patented it and packaged it and slapped it on a plastic lunchbox, and now you're selling it, you want to sell it!"

and to further quote Dr. Ian Malcolm:

"That is one big pile of shit."

I agree with Chris. And Marc, there's a big difference between using an old idea to create something new and flat out ripping something off. True genius would never steal without homage, no matter what "they say".

Marc, I don't think Genius steals. I think it pays homage. as in the case of The Simpsons with earlier episodes paying tribute to such classics as the Raven, Rear Window, Jurassic Park, Cape Fear etc. etc. Or in our case: Mac's 1984 spot. There's a difference between expanding on idea and just blatantly stealing it and trying to re-package it as your own.

You know I haven't seen Back To The Future in a really long time and forgot that scene. I will have to check it out.

I always like to take a look at the invention of the wheel, the most re-invented invention, EVER. Originality knows no bounds, here here Marc.

Advertising borrows from pop culture all the time. I could list thousands of spots that ripped something else off. This just happened to rip something off that you were familiar with. As they say, talent borrows. Genius steals.
