What you are referring to is formally called the "Standard Directory of Advertising Agencies." It is much, much too expensive to buy a subscription—it's in four figures per year. You can consult it at the Harold Washington Library downtown, and some other large outposts of the Chicago Public Library system. But beware—though the "Red Book" is updated quarterly, the versions you'll get at CPL are often a year out of date. (I have no idea why.) If you have access to a good university libary, you may be able to find an up to date copy. Good luck in your search.

there's also the four A's website (aaaa.org) and agencycompile.com. also, just googling "ad agencies in Chicago, IL". I'm hunting too and once found the motherload of lists... http://www.thecityofchicago.com/adve... by the way, are you an art director and would you be interested in joining forces with me, a copywriter, to do some killer spec ads?

LexisNexis Adverting red book, http://www.redbooks.com/Nonsub/index... access to it at the Chicago Public library reference book room. Call them and ask where they have it, then use it as a resource to profile agencies or companies. Hope this helps.
