WARRIORS! Come out and plaaay!

Who's seen this spot?!?! I liked how slick it was. The music tactics are brilliant. The content and the masks? A little aggro and freaky.

Like we really need to encourage men to think about being WARRIORS and aggro-fueled fighting?

I dunno. I'm getting mixed signals, but I enjoyed it the first time I saw it. Maybe I'm a damn dirty hippy.

The music was annoying enough for me to say WTF is THAT and go look at the TV asap. So credit for that, I spose...

??

come out and plaaaayyy

Nike did a good job of building buzz on the web before airing the spot. Teased with just the mask and got you wondering who was behind it. Totally aimed at the jock since I only saw the banners on sports sites (espn, etc.). I thought the masks were a little over the top for the most part. Nice music. Typical Nike. Big production, big name athletes. On the other hand, I like Under Armor's approach. No name athletes (the main guy is the owner's best friend from college) and more of a team concept. Speaks better to the everyday athlete at the gym and the weekend warriors.

Nike's new campaign for warrior apparel is in direct competition with Under Armour, the company who makes workout/professional athletic apparell. Under Armour has gained significant market share from Nike in this field over the past 2 years as many professional athletes tout the clothing while playing in games and in practice. It since has spread to the enthusiast and is the article of choice. Nike, reacting to fierce competition in the competitive athletic apparel category has to go face to face with Under Armor; using "Warriors" associates themselves with "armour". Positioning is everything.

I thought the first helmet or so was cool. After that, they started to look pretty silly. They looked more like something from "Priscilla Queen of the Desert." I'm sure that's entirely *not* what they had intended.

The imagery is no doubt top notch- the rhythm of the cuts is nice. The cage-square on the head? Too wacky and Mad Max-like for me. It reminded me of Eyes Wide Shut for a minute. Grr baby, a little too grr? It borders on goofy for me.

Yeah...I saw it for the first time Wednesday...very intense and hard to ignore. Wieden + Kennedy work. A little behind-the scenes controversy with some of the athletes. They plan to shoot another one in mid-February.

Saw it during the play-off game on Sunday. My buddy (nee partner) and i both thought, "Wow, Under Armor's pushing their budget." Then we saw the swoosh. Cool to look at, doesn't sell a thing. Like any good ad.

Have not seen it yet. I'm a firm believer in music making spots memorable... for better, or worse.
