The ad community doesn't respect the electoral process

The advertising industry has no respect for the electoral process. Adtech is one of the interactive branch of the sector’s major events and Election Day is day 2 of the conference. This means someone traveling to the trade show must have had to plan ahead and vote by absentee ballot (I bet you less than 5 percent had the foresight to do this) or they won’t be able to vote. Adtech couldn’t schedule the meeting for the following week?

The New York Ad Club has a New Business oriented program after work on Election Day. People not living in Manhattan not able vote in the morning will have to choose between commerce and civics. This couldn’t be rescheduled for another day?

I was doing political campaign work on September 13, which was primary day in New York City. Two industry events I was interested in attending were taking place that day, Womma (Word of Mouth Advertising) and the Music Upfront. Why was it so important to schedule events on a day that at least some people vote?

I wound up handing out campaign literature outside BB King’s, where the Music Upfront took place, to a very uninterested crowd.

FYI: Just outside of BB King’s is one of the few free wireless hotspots in New York.

The electoral process has seen better decades . . . glad to hear the meeting was moved.
