This week MySpace bowed to enormous pressure that was started by one of our own in digital advertising. MySpace agreed to hand over to the attorneys generals from 52 states and territories the names, addresses and online profiles of thousands of sex predators who maintained accounts and actively solicited interaction with children.

The sneeze that started it all was created by Pace Lattin, the daddy of ADBumB, and the creator of http://www.adotas.com Pace’s vision foresaw a building coalition to persuade or compel MySpace to do more to protect children from predators and do it more quickly so that appalling criminal incidents will be prevented.

Since February of 2006, when Pace Lattin published his challenge to protect our children from online predators a fever has develeped in the same way we all dream our personal attempts at WOM will achieve. Since May of 2006 this fever has enveloped every single State Capital and all US territories! Mr.Lattin quietly maintained that MySpace either possessed the technological means and money to make its website safer through tougher age verification, higher age limits and stronger warnings and notice, as well as barriers to child predators. Attorney Generals from 52 states and territories have been pushing MySpace and other social networking sites to do a better job protecting children from threats such as sexual predators and inappropriate content ever since Pace Lattin issued his challenge.

Pace Lattin, as most know, is the inventor of the advertising pop-up. Pace is a strategic meta-thinker and has created interactive advertising campaigns for www.about.com and www.Sony.com , among others, and is one of the creators of what we today know as the Google AdSense network.

Mr. Lattin, at great personal and financial risk, challenged the entire digital advertising community to respond to the clear and present danger of mixing children with sexually explicit content and pedophiles when he published: MySpace Isn’t for Advertisers, It’s for Sex Written on February 15th 2006 by Pesach Lattin Click to Open Web Page The article infuriated some, created a buzz that resulted in interviews with, among others, www.wsj.com , www.nytimes.com and more rants and flames then all other posts on www.adotas.com ! But, Pace maintained his position, and today we all can breathe easier because of his tenacity and courage.

Pennsylvania's Attorney General Tom Corbett child-predator unit on Thursday, last week, arrested a Johnsonburg, Pa., man accused of using MySpace to communicate with an undercover agent. In October, state prosecutors charged a Pittsburgh man with using MySpace to proposition a 14-year-old girl.

AG Blumenthal added his voice to Pace’s and following the arrest of a 27-year-old Chaplin man for allegedly sexually assaulting a 13-year-old Hebron girl he met on MySpace issued his own rant on his state's site.

New Jersey lawmakers subpoenaed www.MySpace.com ,yesterday to obtain information about convicted sex offenders who used the site. MySpace agreed on Monday to provide states with e-mail and Internet addresses of sex offenders, bowing to requests from attorneys general who pressured the company to disclose the information. Late last year, in an effort to crack down on sex offenders who use the site, MySpace hired a company to compare the records of its 175 million members with public records of sex offenders. www.AsaBailey.com , who did the Pace Lattin video for the OMMA after party last November in NYC is the quiet creator of sites to prevent child abuse that are published without attribution. Most of us know Asa Bailey from his VW ads or his HotJobs security camera virals that spread like soft butter throughout the University community as an email attachment.
