As Design gains momentum in Business, the understanding of Business is growing to become more important within the Design world. But as Business, previously perceived as the polar opposite of everything creative, starts to recognize the economic significance of Design on Wall Street, designers had better be educated and informed on their right brains. In Business-speak, there is only one objective - Gain. Anytime the interest of profits take centrestage, CEOs are rethinking the equation. It's no longer just about equity battles, financial indexes or the formidable Six Sigma. Of course, the sales charts have to be moving upwards, but it's never quite fast enough. So what is missing? Oh yes, Design. You know it when you see the I-am-glad-i-finally-came-to-my-senses smile on a businessman at a design conference. The GAIN Conference, held by AIGA every other year, is a powerful opportunity that reminds corporate leaders that Design is more than just an aesthetic asset that sits in the boardroom but is instead, the drive to greater profit margins. Held at the Roosevelt Hotel this year, the 2006 AIGA Gain Conference gathered speakers from diverse profiles, from global consumer conglomerates to results-driven creative consultancies to social-responsible agencies. Presentation subjects ranged from Brand Process, to Cross-Cultural Global Market Competitiveness, to Entertainment, to Entrepreneurship, and even to The Bubble Idea. As with the successes of the previous conferences, the 2006 edition invited interest from international delegates from specialization of advertising, telecommunications, hospitality and medical, all of them unite to exercise the multilateral thinking of profitable creativity. TAXI Design Network recollects some of the most interesting presentations over the 2-day conference. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Event coverage editorial and photography of GAIN: AIGA Business and Design Conference in New York, USA, are by TAXI Design Network’s Event Coverage Crew, unless otherwise stated.
