They win a lot of big business. They are on everyones "hot" list, but what major awards have them won? I can't seem to find a single cannes or clio with their name on it.

Ah I didn't realize Old Navy was them. Hope you enjoyed your brief time being female.

Great point, Sunil - I haven't seen their work, let alone award winning work.

PS: It should be Noel not Noelle. Aha Freudian slip!

Cannes and Clios are huge scams. Anyway I agree with Noelle. She should rephrease her question as, "What has Strawberryfrog ever *done*?

Pedro was nothing before he wore a Sox uniform. Were he in Boston right now, we wouldn't be seeing a Boston slump. He left because he's a communist pinko anarchist scrapper soccer hoodlum.

Mets won! 5-2! Pedro is 5-0. Atlanta is 6 games back! (Sorry Capers..)

While we’re on the subject of Strawberryfrog not having garnered any awards, what’s up with the anti-immigration vibe I’m picking up with regards to our neighbors to the south? I don’t know about you folks, but the last time I checked, there weren’t many illegal immigrants from Mexico low-bidding me for advertising jobs. In fact, if I were to jump on the anti-immigration bandwagon, I’d head north – to Canada. Why do these geese head south to America? Money. Plain and simple. Good old American Greenbacks. I don’t speak Canadian but I sure do speak American and I’m not going to let the Canadian low-bidders outbid me anymore. At least not until our good friends to the north start felling some trees for our toilet paper. Timmmmmmbbbbbeeerrrr!

Speaking of Strawberryfrog not having won any awards, which team won tonight: Mets or Atlanta?

Hey, I heard somebody say, "Strawberrfrog won an _______." I wonder if I would have heard the entire sentence had a truck not blown a tire next to my ear

Oops, what were we talking about?

Fascists aren't cool. Fascists are so uncool. Sure they dress real flash but they rarely have good hash. They want the trains on time but they seldom spare a dime. They'll gladly slit your throat when they're looking for scapegoats. They fill you full of lead and they're really lame in bed.

ok I'll go post this on IHAI.org

Noel, it's your behavior that's inappropriate. Adholes encourages conversations to flow naturally. If you want a stodgy, fascist situation please go to SoFlow. I'll be the judge of whether people are on topic or not.

Here I'll say this one more time. IF YOU DON'T HAVE ANYTHING TO SAY THAT IS DIRECTLY RELATED TO STRAWBERRYFROM NOT HAVING AWARDS, DON'T POST IN THIS WEB BLOG.

BTW - who is Strawberry Frog?

I have plenty of awards and they're in a box in my closet ... want one? Sorry - that was obnoxious. They are great PR for a photographers and Directors because so many of our prospects are obsessed by them: agencies, designers, art directors, etc. (especially the younger ones). Agency clients are obsessed with results. In my experience with Biz Dev on the agency side, not once during a pitch did a prospect ask about our awards. Also, We (advertising industry types) are very self congratulatory. It is a fun distraction to see the newest work we choose to praise this year. I'll have to say though ... getting photography work accepted into the CA Photo Annual is the same as cold hard cash in the door even though 1/3 of the photos in each issue make me scratch my head and wonder.

Peace, kids. Reading this fresh from top to bottom it sounds like everybody here (except maybe Tom, what else is new) is here for a real conversation. Tom is just here to stir the pot, and in the end drop in some pretty deep thoughts.

In the end, who CARES what Strawberryfrog wins? There are many things to be studied. Firstly, how do they win business? That's the real key. No matter how creative or smart or right you are, the one with the ability to work tomorrow wins.

Secondly, what does an award mean? That other ad agencies weren't popular with the judges that year? Tell me how any award show isn't about high school politics, and I'll throw right back in your face how there are other award shows that say your award show sucks (which is high school politics).

Lastly, if you are not partnered with your client, working directly with them to improve their sales, process, and products, what is the point of talking about anything else? Winning the Clio is to a Britney Spears Grammy what tripling your client's sales is to Led Zeppelin IV.

Strawberry Frog is the best Public Relations Agency around.

Noel, I really was not trying to start shit. I was asking a valid question. This is a conversation. Rather than attacking, divert the said digression back to the topic. I honestly was not trying to stir up shit. Hey, I am full of myself at times thinking advertising is the be all end all. I was only posing a question to a question. I apologize for any percieved slight.

I've never won a major award that's true. I'm not trying to start shit..this guy felt the need to divert from the topic at hand with some "why do we care about awards oh we're so full of ourselves" BS. That's called hijacking a weblog. on the subject. I think you're totally right marc. They win clients on their name of past work they did at other shops. But they have to have won something major right? Atleast once? I've looked and found nothing. Not even a shortlist.

I think in all seriousness to the question the blog posed, Strawberry Frog has won accounts more based on a new agency model and less on the work. mcgarrybowen is another hot agency that's winning business hand over fist even though for the most part their work is mediocre. The formula seems to be bigwig ad guys leave a holding company shop and start their own. They offer work that costs less than Y&R could do, is 5% more creative, gets done 10% faster, and costs 20% less. The clients save money and time and the agency makes money hand over fist because they keep the employee roster slim and work people hard. So, everyone talks about all the work StrawberryFrog won. I think people mistakenly assumed that meant that because they had a cool name and won some good accounts that they do great work. I've actually never seen anything they've done. As far as you, Noel, it doesn't look like you have won any awards either?

As I said, not a surly query. It is not a matter of my not winning awards, but there is some damn fine advertising that is funny, effective, and just plain makes me feel good that gets overlooked for "The Awards." (Mind you I would not place mine in awards categories at the moment.) There is a hell of alot of shitty advertising which is makes it in. A Vespa campaign from a few years ago comes to mind. If I seem like a bitter man, well it is not really the case here. I like to convince my clients to let me do great well designed advertising and design for them and for the most part I have been pretty lucky. Award winning? Probably not, but it works for my client and I am pretty happy with the work I get to do. I was just countering with a real question.

mark you sound like a man who doesn't win awards.
Tuesday, April 25, 2006. 04:25PM by Mark Weills
Maybe that is the problem with advertising? Always working to win awards? Just asking. Not a surly query, just a thought for all of us in the industry.
