Oh, Adholes. How I've missed you. It has been a couple months, I think. I'm a little older, a little wiser, but no less concerned with what are likely trivial matters.

I'm up against one helluva situation this time, so I thought I'd toss it out into the sea of experience that is Adholes, and see what I can reel in.

I've been working for the last while as a Marketing Intern for a small Technology company in Toronto. Let's call them "The Company". My team and I are getting ready to roll out a B2B direct mail campaign, and we've hit a snag:

If you're a small marketing team working for free for a small company, where do you get images to use on advertisements?

We thought we were about set, then we realized that the clipart we were looking at using can't be used for advertisements. Long story short, we thought it was public domain, but it's not. So now I'm bashing my head off the wall trying to figure out how to effectively replace all these items. And how to do it before deadline.

Or maybe this isn't as big a deal as I think it is.

It was a Nehi Grape, not a Coke.

Something similar happened to me three autumns ago. Well, not similar, but something happened to me back then that must have involved clipart or art or photography or drawing or one of the words you wrote because I flashbacked to Fall ’03. October 26, 2003 to be exact. “You’re fired!” screamed the balding, middle-aged lady. “You can’t fire me. I don’t even work here. I’m just loitering,” I replied. “Get out!” yelled the menopausal frumpy female. “Do you have change for the vending machine?” I asked. Adding, “I’d like to grab a Coke on the way out.”

I wish we could. But it's Powerpoint clipart, and Microsoft says they can't give permission. We've found some work-arounds, we're exploring them right now. I'm confident we can get around it. But MAN. What a lesson to learn.

Are you able, at this time, to get permission and/or give credit to the clip art artist(s)? Public domain clip art is difficult to find and even then, too much work involved in sizing, etc.
