As graduation is only a month away, I have no idea what I am going to do with my life. I want to be an account planner so bad I can taste it. Everything I read, everything I see about it, I fall further and further in love. Only problem, NO ONE HIRES Jr. Planners! I thought I had everything covered, AAF president, a board member of our Ad Federation, year of agency experience. All to no avail, if I get one more email that says "we are sorry we have no job availabilities at this time, bu we will keep your resume' on file for future reference" I think I may scream. Sometimes I think I can even hear their recycling bin being emptied in the background as I read these ding letters. Anyways, it is 5:00 am and I just wanted to rant.

For now, I guess I will remain Stuck in traffic.

PS I am so happy I found this place, I can't wait to be a sponge.

I've heard that program in SF is good. Have you only applied to internships nearby or are you looking to go anywhere?

Thanks for the inspiration, I have applied to a couple ap internships for the summer, and then in October I plan on attending Miami Ad's Boot Camp for Planners in San Francisco. Hopefully that helps.

Hey there...don't despair (what people tell me) - I've been out of school for a few yrs, have done an account service internship and worked in interactive marketing - all the way feeling and knowing planning is definitely me. You probably already know this but networking is key. I hate sending my resume to HR without knowing someone...try getting informationals. That might help. Informationals often turn into 'real' interviews. And you might get in at the right time. Good luck.

The problem is so many people get sucked into wanting to be junior planners when there really is no such thing. Account planning seems to be the dream job of the moment, so opportunities are few and far between, but you still have to work in the trenches to get there. Get your foot in the door by working on accounts as a Jr. AE or get into media buying - work your way up through that side and you will gain lots of hands on experience. Good luck!

"Stuck in traffic ". . . get out and walk. Take public transportation next time. Do whatever it takes. What ever is necessary, knowing that there is always a way, for those who seek it.
