The other day my wife bought a box of candy for the little ones. She bought it because a friend is the distributor. The box is white with black lettering. Intereting choice when the competition is shelves full of candy in bright colors and labels. She tells the rep, who passes it on to the company heads, that their packaging is B-O-R-I-NG. You're the company head: what would you do?

i'd thank her for noticing my box of candy. Whoever designed the box is brilliant. I designed a guitar school :30 spot in much the same way. :25 of silence, :05 of guitar riff/tag at the end. I designed it to air on a music network. The commercial got a lot of attention because lo and behold, it was unusually quiet on an "all amps to 11" station - and it was about a guitar school. Stood out, didn't it? Kudos to the package designer.

If my product was somehow unique, and consequently different from all of my competition, I would tend to keep it that way. Wouldn't you?
