More consolidation. Does that mean less attention to the ethnic markets?

I'd agree that you'll find more places cropping up dedicated to ethnic markets. In particular I've noticed more agencies focusing on Hispanic marketing--even in Milwaukee. Ethnic advertising is going to keep growing as companies realize the buying power of these growing markets and I think they will see more attention in the future, not less.

Consolidation is a trend that will continue to happen as long as there are agencies out there that are good enough to grab. In many ways some of these networks only gain new work by buying the smaller agencies. However, there has been a trend, at least starting in the second half of 2004 with the opening of a few startups. I don't know if it means less attention to ethnic markets, even this past year there were some holding companies looking to purchase minority agencies. But I also agree, there will be some smaller places opening up to grab whatever they can in the niche and micro-marketing areas. Even here on this site we have seen a number of people who are from alternate media agencies.

I agree with Jeff. I also think that we're starting to see more and more focus from brands on micro-marketing; with companies striving to reach more finely tuned - - smaller, more focused slices of a targeted market. With this targeting, attention to specific ethnic markets will emerge.

remember, for every trend there's a counter trend. as agencies consolidate, you're going to see more and more small speciality shops popping up. as this country gets increasingly more diverse, ethnic marketing becomes a "must-have" in a marketing program.
